The Secret World: 11 months, 3 weeks ago · ViewGDC is underway and The Secret World should be getting a lot of coverage this time. Not only with new official footage but with the press allowed to film presentations and playthrougs this time it should provide the first thorough look at how this game is. Press Embargo lifts on the tenth.
Nearly half an hour worth of gameplay is up here; http://www.tentonhammer.com/tsw/gdc11/gdc2011-videos
Lot’s of exciting stuff if you ask me, but I’ll let those interested make your own minds up.
New site and trailer is also available now: http://www.thesecretworld.com/media

The Secret World: 1 year, 4 months ago · ViewHas anyone following The Secret World been toying with any guild ideas? Mostly just curious to hear if someone is sitting on anything cool.
I’ve heard almost nothing to be honest. Jova? :)
Not really, just characters. Personally I’m aiming for Templar and I know Mib is going Illuminati. Getting a cabal together would require some of us choosing the same faction and I don’t know where everyone stands in that question? The game doesn’t even have an announced release yet so I personally haven’t given cabals much thought.
Yeah, I guess we’d be bound to end up evenly split across factions the way things are panning out. Different people will find different factions more appealing, seeing as there is no good or bad guys as such. Though I have been thinking a bit on occasion, I don’t really have any stellar ideas yet myself either, thus my checking around here. ;)
Need more info about the game in general and the factions specifically. Right now there’s just the general idea of the factions that’s available but how are they organized? What do they really want? Who are the members and why? For example, if I’m a Dragon I wouldn’t know what to do because I don’t know what their agenda is.
I’d argue their ideologies are plenty clear enough to work of, the blanks are easy enough to fill in later. One example was an idea the streaked my mind of how a group of Templars could be opposed to and working against the ”kill and burn all, ask questions later” attitude of the faction. But personally I’m not so sure I want something that could be mired in faction politics, and much rather fancy playing of the pulp adventure aspects of the setting, where base ideas don’t need to rely so heavily on faction, but rather just complements them.
See, there I don’t think you got the Templar mentality right. I don’t think they’re like that. Yes, they are militaristic and have been fighting the darkness far longer than any of the factions. They are uncompromising when it comes to getting the job done, but they aren’t mindless crusaders who doesn’t care if 1000 civilians fall victim to an attack on a demon. They are sophisticated and bound in old traditions of honor. The reason they view themselves as ”THE war on evil” is their long tradition of fighting it. That’s my take. :) But it goes to show that there are blanks to fill in and I don’t like to fill those kinds of blanks in a later stage when things are already established.
Yeah, thats my bad. Probably spent to much time around the forums to separate discussion from known fact. But internal movement to change the Templar from its ”old and often uncompromising ways” is still very real. This discussion has gone a bit of trail though, I was just curious if people had thought of something fun. As I mentioned in my last post I’m not really to concerned about the faction details when thinking of how I wish to experience TSW. I remember seeing some of the early concept, the guys looking out across a valley full of dinosaurs and thought, ”I want to play that”. Something in the spirit of Arthur Conan Doyle’s ”The Lost World”, Lovecraft’s ”At the mountain of madness”, even Indiana Jones. This has has my thoughts trailing in the direction of setting up something along of the lines of an expeditionary team, boldly venturing into the uncharted parts of the world to uncover and seize its secrets before anyone else can. Proper pulp adventure stuff. :)
:) It will be interesting to see what Agartha is like.
I guess a cabal could be playing as a frontier group of a faction, specialized at Agartha exploring and venturing. Would mean alot of PvP as well going in that direction, but it’s plausible and could be a fun idea.True, Agartha is one of those things its hard to plan towards yet, as we don’t know how it acts out in its entirety and if much roleplay is plausible there. But it still looks like there are plenty of remote places on the surface to explore as well. ;)

The Secret World: 1 year, 5 months ago · ViewFor those who’ve missed it, here’s a video about starting out in London as a Templar.
Awesome stuff. What do we know about the roleplay aspects in this?
What aspects do you mean?
Very little is still known about the fine workings of the game in general, Funcom are keeping the cards close to their chest. However, it is quite promising. Social aspects(which help nurture good RP quite a lot if you ask me) seem to be highly prioritized.

The Secret World: 1 year, 5 months ago · ViewDon’t know that much about this game, but i have read some, and i find it intresting, so i joined to keep an eye on it at least :) And join in talks
Don’t know that much either but what I did hear sounded very interesting. Especially since the illuminati is an organisation I have a very large interest into. :)
Lots of interesting stuff here. Illuminati, Templars and Dragon, modern day setting in our real world, pretty much most myths, legends and tales are real in this alternate universe, no levels because it’s skill based, clothes have no stats so wear what you want. For me it’s my fantasy MMO. :)
There are good and bad things with clothes which has no stats if you ask me. I like it from a reality perspective and because it will be much more emphasis on what you do with what you have rather than epic-gear-hunting. However, there is a risk that an interesting dimension disappears from the game if you don’t exchange this feeling to something else. Is there something that is stat-based?
Of course there are magical jewelery that provide bonuses, and of course different weapons have different stats. Point being that everyone won’t look the same in the end because everyone’s wearing the best armor possible. Wouldn’t work in a modern day, real world setting.

The Secret World: 1 year, 5 months ago · ViewEverything you thought was a fairy tale, urban legend, myth is real. Dark days are coming.
When is the release date for this game again?
There is no release date yet. :)
Ah right, but the beta then?
No news.
Judging by what little we have, next year should at least see that start of the beta. Though some hope to see a release late 2011, 2012 could be more likely for a release. Wouldn’t be surprised if Funcom wants to put some room between TSW and TOR before they release either.
